Day 13 Devotional: Fasting For Revelation

Day 13: Fasting for Revelation

And to Him was given dominion, honor, and a kingdom, so that all the peoples, nations, and populations of all languages might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:14)

Who is the Lord of your life? You may have heard this question before. It’s often asked in church services, followed by the opportunity to pray and commit your life to Christ, but this is a good question to ask yourself daily . . . not just once in a lifetime.

Romans 10:9 says that if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Salvation is a free gift we receive by grace because we have a revelation of who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Jesus talked to His disciples about this.

He said to them, "But who do you yourselves say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus then tells Peter that flesh and blood did not reveal this to him, but His Father in heaven. He changes his name from Simon to Peter, which means stone, and says He will build His church upon that rock and the gates of hell will not overpower it (see Matthew 16:15-18).

Peter wasn’t chosen because of his leadership skills and personal accomplishments, but because of his understanding of who Jesus was. So if you’re feeling ill-equipped to handle what you’ve been called to do, or you’re not sure if anyone will every notice what you’re capable of, remember that it’s not what you do, it’s who you know.

In Chapter seven, Daniel has a powerful revelation of the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man, a scene where the Son is presented to the Father and given everlasting dominion.

The first six chapters of the book of Daniel are a chronological telling of events in his life, but the story changes direction in Chapter seven as Daniel goes back to recount visions, dreams, and prophetic encounters he had over the years.

Daniel was alarmed by his vision, just like we are when we hear about current events. Turmoil and division surround us, and it’s a very unsettling time. The Bible talks about wars and rumors of wars, and we certainly have these threats in our day, but God is good to show us His promise for the future.

Jesus is Lord of an everlasting kingdom, and the day will come when everyone will serve Him. In the meantime, we can continue to pray every day for a revelation of who Jesus is, and be reminded that He is more than enough to sustain us.
