Day 4 Daniel Fast 12 Day Devotional

DAY 4: You Have To Be Strong To Be Humble

READING: Daniel 4

KEY VERSE

But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom endures from generation to generation.

-Daniel 4:34

I received an unexpected promotion a few years ago. As I stepped into this new position I was fervently praying for the Lord to give me wisdom on how to lead and direct. When I asked, “Lord, what do I need to know” His answer to me loud and clear was...

HUMILITY.

Yes Lord, I responded. I understand how important that is. I’m not prideful about this, I wasn’t even trying to get to this place. Humility is always important but what else, what do I need to know and what should I do? His only response to me was that one word: Humility.

I am reminded of this word continuously. Humility is not just the antidote to pride, but also addresses a spirit of unworthiness. Both mindsets are dangerous, placing you on a pedestal of thinking results are based on your talent, skills, and performance – whether good or bad!

We cannot take the credit for what God has done through our lives, but we also don’t have to bear heavy burdens of responsibility. We can be confident that God will equip us for what He has called us to do.

Nebuchadnezzar looked at the city around him and reflected, “Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?” (Dan 4:30). After this he was driven away and became like an animal until he raised his eyes to heaven and honored God.

Humility requires strength. We have to be strong in our faith and steady in our conviction. Through challenges, and times of prosperity, our strength is not in our own power but in the Lord.
