DAY 12: Shine Brightly
READING: Daniel 12
KEY VERSE
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
Daniel 12:3
Jesus is the main thing, He is coming again, and He will rule forever. That is the summary not only of this devotional, or the book of Daniel, but of the entire bible. We can stand steadfast in supernatural peace in spite of our circumstances if we hold onto this truth.
Followers of Christ are called to live as people of a heavenly kingdom. This isn’t one of the four earthly kingdoms in Daniel’s visions, who rise in power and then are defeated by the next best earthly political regime. In Chapter 12, Daniel does not get a clear picture of every future detail, but he’s assured all will be revealed at the proper time.
A snapshot of Daniel’s life looks bleak. He was taken into captivity at a young age. He had to prove himself repeatedly to multiple rulers. He was betrayed by his colleagues. He endured multiple death threats, and was even thrown into a lion’s den.
But God. God always covered Daniel. Daniel was protected and promoted every time he faced adversity. We see Daniel’s devotion to God, always seeking His guidance and giving Him praise. We see his humility, his teachability and lifelong commitment to seek understanding, and his determination to live an undefiled life pure before God. Daniel lived a life like Christ - and that is an example to all of us!
