Day 21 Devotional: Fasting To Shine Brightly

And those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)

If you’ve been fasting for 21 days, you have reached the grand finale! How do you feel? Take time today to inventory the past 21 days, whether you fasted the entire time or not.

  • What did God reveal to you that was fresh insight?

  • What was different than you expected, or caught you by surprise?

  • What is your greatest takeaway? You can hit reply and let me know the answers to these questions, I would love to hear!

Fasting never gets old, God is infinitely creative and always pressing forward to do a new thing in our lives. The more times I have fasted and spent time conscientiously pursuing His presence, the more certain I am that I cannot live without regular, dedicated times with the Lord in prayer and fasting.

On your life “journey” you need regular breaks to refresh, get some water and fuel, and pull out your compass to check your bearings. The demands of life will naturally pull you off course. As Jesus said, the worries of this world can choke the word and it can become unfruitful. (Mark 4:19)

We need regular pruning and spiritual refueling so we can press on to maturity. The angelic messengers told Daniel, “Many will be purged, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand.” (Daniel 12:10)

As we close, let’s pray for insight because we need supernatural understanding.

The final chapter of the book of Daniel says this insight will cause us to shine and to stand out, empowered to lead others to righteousness. Psalm 103 says the Lord pardons, heals, redeems, crowns and satisfies “so that your youth is renewed like the eagle" (Psalm 103:5).

His forgiveness and restoration are not only for you, but for everyone. Consider this as you go forward: He will use you and your testimony to reach others, you are an essential part of His kingdom plan.

“Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not.” - St. Augustine
